Random Walk Through Historiography: South India presents a selective re-reading of existing texts on history, analysing historiography in the context of South India. The five essays included here investigate the role of language, systems of signs and textual strategies in the formation of identities and categories in objective historiography. Concepts such as ‘category displacement’, ‘conceptual slippage’ and ‘archaivalisation’ are introduced and discussed here.
