KCHR Fellowships

Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) offers the following research fellowships.

1. International Fellowships in Pattanam Archaeological Research

KCHR  offers  Senior  and  Junior  International  Research  Fellowships  (SRF/JRF)  in  inter disciplinary Material Culture Studies in the Pattanam Archaeology Research. Named after eminent archaeology researchers across the world, these reciprocal fellowships are dedicated to the advanced study of Pattanam excavation finds. The research opportunity is offered to pre-doctoral students, doctoral, post-doctoral and senior investigators to conduct cross-disciplinary research in collaboration with the Pattanam team to generate new knowledge and help preserve human heritage for future generations. 

The fellowship grant will be as per the current rates available for the UGC SRF/JRFs. The contingency grant will be Rs.25,000 per annum for both categories. There is no cutoff date for filing proposals.

2. PhD Fellowships ( 6 numbers)

KCHR Doctoral Fellowships are open to research scholars to pursue PhD programme in any of the Indian Universities or at KCHR on themes related to Kerala society, history or allied social science themes. The fellowship grant will be Rs. 10000/- per month with a contingency grant of Rs. 25,000/- per annum. Students who have already enrolled themselves or qualified as per UGC norms to register for Ph.D programmes can also apply. This fellowship is open to fulltime research scholars only. The applications are closed for this academic year (2016-17).

3. Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship (1 number)

KCHR offers three months short term Residence Fellowship to eminent scholars to work on article(s) or monograph(s) or for completing scholarly work in progress. The Fellowship is open to well established scholars cutting across disciplinary boundaries and nationalities. The scholars will be provided residence facility and financial support (honorarium) of Rs. 100,000. There is no cutoff date for filing applications.

4. Fellowships to revise Ph.D. thesis (2 numbers)

This fellowship supports scholars to revise/modify their PhD theses for publication. The grant under this scheme will be a maximum of Rs. 50,000 and the selected scholar will have to complete the work within one year. The applications are closed for this academic year (2016-17).

5. Fellowships to design Post-Doctoral Research theme (2 numbers)

This fellowship is meant to support Ph.D holders to pursue their research by helping them define and design an area/theme for Post-doctoral research. The grant under this scheme will be a maximum of Rs. 50,000 and the selected scholar will have to complete the work within one year. The applications are closed for this academic year (2016-17).

Memorial Fellowships/Endowments

 Memorial fellowships, awards and endowments can be instituted with KCHR to foster knowledge-based research. We request individuals, families, institutions and trusts to utilize this facility.

 The following endowment and award are instituted at the KCHR. 

 1.    Sri. Puthuppally Raghavan Memorial Endowment for Annual Memorial Lecture instituted by his family.   

 2.    Sri. A.M.N Chakyar Award for the best biography instituted by his family.    

Sponsor Fellowships

 Currently KCHR is seeking sponsors for its project “History of Malayali Migrations and Migrant Communities”. Sponsors are welcome to support research in the following areas.
