KCHR offers internships to graduate, and post-graduate students from any part of the world interested in undertaking short term assignments in social sciences in an interdisciplinary perspective. The internships are also meant to expose them to various projects and programmes of KCHR. Library assignments and field work are compulsory components of the internship.
The curriculum of the interns will be framed also taking into consideration the potential, inclination and aspiration of the applicant. Students can also utilize the period of internship to prepare their dissertation/assignment as part of their graduate or post-graduate courses. Duration of the internship may vary from 3 weeks to six months and students from India and abroad can avail of this facility. The minimum fee for an individual intern will be Rs. 2000, and the fees may vary for group interns and others depending on the duration and course/assignment content.
Important Projects of KCHR
1. Pattanam Museum
KCHR invites dedicated interns to join us in the foundational stages of the Pattanam Museum project. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with experts either at our Thiruvananthapuram office or at the KCHR Pattanam Campus. Interns will gain hands-on experience in the curation, research, and development processes essential for establishing a museum that showcases the rich archaeological heritage of Pattanam. As an intern, you will be an integral part of our team, contributing to the museum's primary setup and having a lasting impact on its future.
2. Explorations and Survey of Periyar Valley
The project on explorations in the Periyar valley, central Kerala under the head Archaeological Explorations, Survey and Excavations. The work will be multi-disciplinary taking into account the geological, ecological, archaeological and historical aspects of the region. It will focus on a detailed exploration and survey of the entire Periyar Valley considering the archaeological materials, inscriptions, monuments, ethnography and landscape.
3. Compiling a Volume of Early History of Kerala - Early Social Formation, and Economic and Cultural History of Kerala: Database of Archaeology, Literature, ethnography and Epigraphy
The project to investigate the early social formations and economic and cultural history of Kerala based on various historical sources. The project would organize theme- based workshops of experts, who will contribute chapters on various themes related to the Early Social Formation, and the Economic and Cultural History of Kerala. The project also seeks to create a database of sources such as archaeology, literature, ethnography and epigraphy. This project will be led by Dr. Selvakumar.
4. Migration and Population Movements in Kerala History
The project which aims to create a comprehensive migration database spanning from ancient times to the present, requiring a multidisciplinary team over a two-year period, including researchers specialized in cartography and anthropology.
5. Digitizing Kerala Past
This project aims to conserve the documents and photographs relating to the social, cultural, historical, and scientific heritage of Kerala. A statewide village-to-village campaign to digitize privately owned historical records, images, and valid documents, etc., is envisaged under this project. Mobile digitizing units with necessary equipment will visit selected Panchayats, and the people’s archives campaign will culminate in the establishment of a Digital Archive of documents, images, and other sources, including memories. Interns will receive basic training on digitizing archival documents.
6. Historical Atlas for Kerala'
The project envisages data base creation and documentation of archaeological/historical sites, artifacts and monuments of Kerala. The effort is to locate/ update existing information on archeologically and historically significant sites, artifacts and monuments of Kerala and create a comprehensive database. This is expected to eventually generate a digital Historical Atlas for Kerala, which may be linked to the official website of the KCHR.
