2. Development of Digital Archive: Documenting Kerala’s Past before 1950

KCHR invites proposals for financial assistance under its major research initiative, “Conserving the Historical Heritage of Kerala.” For the year 2025–26, the focus is on “Development of Digital Archive: Documenting Kerala’s Past before 1950.” This initiative primarily involves the digitization of archival materials of historical significance.

Researchers are encouraged to identify, collect, and digitize documents that shed light on Kerala’s rich history and culture prior to 1950. Selected projects are expected to accomplish the following: Digitize rare and valuable historical documents, Create detailed metadata for each item, Submit the digitized materials to KCHR for inclusion in its Digital Archive. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to preserving Kerala’s heritage for future generations. We welcome innovative and impactful proposals from scholars and researchers passionate about history and archival work.

The research proposal for funding must be submitted online and should include samples of the documents intended for digitization, along with the consent of the document custodian for digitizing and uploading them to the KCHR Digital Archive. The project duration is limited to one year, and the maximum funding available for a project is Rs. 5,00,000.
