New Possibilities and Explorations in History and Archaeology in Contemporary Kerala
The KCHR Foundation Day Lectures/Seminar Series, scheduled during March & April, aims to foster critical engagement with Kerala's history and archaeology by bringing together scholars, researchers, and the wider public. This edition features two academic seminars and three public events, designed to explore new historiographical approaches, interdisciplinary methodologies, and the role of public participation in shaping historical narratives.
The academic seminars, organized in collaboration with UC College, Aluva and Govt. Arts & Science College Calicut, will examine contemporary research frameworks, methodological innovations, and evolving perspectives in Kerala's historical and archaeological studies. These sessions will provide a platform for rigorous academic discussions, fostering new directions in historical inquiry.
Alongside these scholarly deliberations, three public events will bridge academic discourse with wider public participation. The event "On Writing Local History", to be hosted at Cheruthazham, Kannur, in collaboration with Kulappuram Vayanasala & Grandhalayam, will highlight the significance of local histories in shaping historical narratives and the role of documentation in advancing historiographical dialogues. Another event at CMS College, Kottayam, organized with Kerala Pradeshika Padanasamithi Kottayam Nattukootttam, will focus on alternative perspectives in historical research, emphasizing how public engagement contributes to historical reinterpretation and the expansion of historiographical debates. Additionally, an academic session in collaboration with SCERT, with selected Centenary Schools in Trivandrum will examine the history of education and its impact on historical consciousness.
By fostering intellectual exchange and encouraging diverse perspectives, this initiative seeks to advance historical scholarship, promote inclusive historiography, and engage with contemporary debates in Kerala's history and archaeology.
